College Gigs, they ain't what they used to be!

Bringing your comedy onto their campus

To be or not to be:
How to take the fear and loathing out of college giggies!

Our local Sonoma State University begins their fall semester classes on Monday, August 19.
Now is perhaps a good time to look at what both campus bookers and
the stand-up comics they are trying to book
might want to consider.

Jay Leno was taken aback when he discovered from college audience reactions to his material
that a large percentage of the audience did not know much about sex,
let alone relationships.
So, they did not get many of his gags.

Bill Maher and Dennis Miller are political comics
who got heckled non-stop by neo-liberals.

The list goes on.
Upshot: many established comics just don't do college gigs any more.

Seems to me that the real issue is comics not bothering to address
the unique demographics of the college audience:
What if you have a character
(main or minor character)
new to drugs vs. their hip partner?
Or one new to marriage vs. the other one who knows . . . more?
One whose politics are ___ vs. one who feels just the opposite about ___?

Objective is to include both experienced and only minimum experienced folks in your college audience.
Example: The concluding 18 minutes of Michael Ian Black live at Brown University on April 13, 2011:

If you don't know which bits you can still use from your regular act
when playing to college audiences,
just make an appointment and
we can figure it out together.
